About Us

There are no strangers at the Roundhouse, only family. Come groove with local musicians where the wines are made onsite, the beer is cold, the sangria is famous, and where fairy-tale weddings come true.
Established in 2010, Roundhouse Wine Company celebrates the rich railroad history of Centralia, Illinois-a city purported to owe its name to the Illinois Central Railroad. Our mission is to showcase the best that Southern Illinois has to offer  by treating visitors to premium handcrafted wine made predominantly from locally-grown grapes and other fruits.

A Little Roundhouse History

It all started in 2001 when husband and wife duo, Jerry and Sheila Kapes, joined the Illinois Grape Growers and Vintners Association (IGGVA) and attended their first IGGVA annual conference. Fascinated by the experience, the couple sought to expand their knowledge of the Illinois grape and wine market by taking online courses through Shawnee Community College, attending seminars and workshops all over the state and networking with industry leaders. In 2004, the Kapes’ decided to pursue the idea of opening a winery in Centralia. After a year and a half of analyzing and preparing the soil, they planted their first half acre of vines with construction of the winery, tasting room and pavilion banquet room commencing in the spring of 2010. Located amid the natural beauty of Raccoon Lake, Roundhouse Wine Company proudly opened for business on October 9th, 2011, and continues to serve as an enchanting indoor/outdoor venue where locals, day-trippers, and tourists gather to relax, party and unWINEd.
